What will the net salary in ESAT be in 2026 based on your working hours?

A worker in an ESAT does not receive a salary in the traditional sense. They receive a guaranteed remuneration, composed of a part paid by the establishment and a position aid funded by the State. The net amount that arrives in the account each month directly depends on the hours worked, but also on the possible accumulation with the AAH. Understanding this mechanism allows you to anticipate what you will actually receive in 2026.

Prorating working hours in ESAT: what a reduced quota changes

Most articles on remuneration in ESAT present the legal range (between 55.7% and 110.7% of the gross minimum wage) without explaining what happens concretely when the presence time drops below 50%. This is, however, a common situation.

Let’s take a simple example. At full-time, the gross guaranteed remuneration in ESAT is, in 2026, between approximately 1,017 and 2,022 euros per month depending on the level set by the establishment. When you switch to part-time, this remuneration is prorated proportionally to your working quota. Therefore, part-time roughly divides the gross amount by two.

For very low quotas (less than a quarter-time for example), the guaranteed remuneration becomes very low. The 2024-2025 reform has provided specific modalities for these situations: a resource floor is maintained thanks to the AAH, which compensates for the drop in remuneration. The net result in hand therefore does not drop to zero, but it varies significantly according to your presence time.

Combining ESAT remuneration and AAH in 2026: the ceilings that determine your net

Do you receive remuneration in ESAT and also receive the AAH? The total of both cannot exceed certain ceilings. It is this limit that practically sets your monthly net income.

In 2026, the monthly ceilings are calculated based on the gross minimum wage:

  • For a single person, the total ESAT remuneration plus AAH must not exceed 1,823.03 euros per month.
  • For a couple, this ceiling rises to 2,369.94 euros per month.
  • For a couple with a child or a dependent relative, it reaches 2,643.40 euros per month.

If the sum exceeds the ceiling, the CAF reduces the amount of the AAH accordingly. The calculation is not gross: the CAF first applies a deduction on the part of the remuneration paid directly by the ESAT before determining the “resources retained”.

In practice, the more your working hours increase, the more your ESAT remuneration rises, and the more the AAH decreases. The opposite is also true: very reduced working hours generate low remuneration but leave more room for the AAH.

Decoupling the AAH: a net gain for workers in couples

Since the reform fully implemented in 2023-2024, the income of the spouse is no longer taken into account in the calculation of the AAH. In 2026, this decoupling produces a concrete effect: ESAT workers in couples receive a higher net available amount than before the reform, with the same working hours.

Before this measure, a spouse with average income could bring the AAH down to zero. This is no longer the case. For a part-time worker whose AAH complements the ESAT remuneration, the difference in net income can represent several hundred euros per month.

Bonuses and supplementary income: what adds (or not) to the monthly net

The guaranteed remuneration is not the only possible income in ESAT. Since 2024, ESAT workers can benefit from the value-sharing bonus (PPV), previously reserved for employees in the ordinary labor market.

This bonus, when paid by the ESAT, is exempt from social contributions and income tax within certain limits. It does not affect the calculation of the AAH. Therefore, it is a real net supplement, with no impact on the accumulation ceilings.

At the same time, the PCH (disability compensation benefit) remains cumulative with ESAT remuneration. The PCH covers needs related to disability (human assistance, housing adaptation) and does not count in the calculation of resources for the AAH.

What the guaranteed remuneration does not cover

ESAT remuneration does not provide access to the same protections as a traditional salary. No unemployment insurance, no retirement contributions equivalent to those of an employee. The worker in ESAT signs a work support contract, not an employment contract.

This distinction has practical consequences on retirement rights and social coverage in case of work stoppage. The rights acquired under the ESAT remain specific and often lower than those in the ordinary labor market.

Simulate your net salary in ESAT according to your working hours

To estimate your monthly net in 2026, three variables are sufficient: your working time quota, the percentage of the minimum wage retained by your ESAT for the direct part, and your family situation (which determines the accumulation ceiling with the AAH).

  • A full-time position with guaranteed remuneration at the floor (55.7% of the minimum wage) allows for a larger accumulation margin with the AAH than a full-time position paid at 110.7%.
  • A part-time position reduces the remuneration by about half, but the AAH partially compensates for this decrease if you are below the ceiling.
  • A quarter-time or less generates very low remuneration, compensated by a higher AAH, but the total remains capped.

The net actually received is therefore not proportional to the working hours. It is the interplay between remuneration and AAH that determines the final income, not just the hourly quota. Each family situation produces a different result, making online simulators more reliable than an approximate calculation.

For workers under legal protection measures (guardianship, trusteeship), the judicial representative requires a monthly readability of these amounts. Requesting a detailed summary from your ESAT each month remains the safest way to verify that the calculation corresponds to your actual working hours.
